Gloucester Police Arrest Suspect for Armed Robbery at Paprika Grill
GLOUCESTER — Interim Chief John McCarthy reports that the Gloucester Police Department today arrested a suspect after an armed robbery at the Paprika Grill late last month.
After an investigation by Gloucester Police Detectives, GEORGE A. DOHERTY, AGE 26, OF COLUMBIA STREET IN GLOUCESTER was arrested and charged with:
- Armed and Masked Robbery
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Larceny over $250
On Feb. 20, 2017, police responded to the restaurant, located at 185 Washington St., for a reported armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a man wearing a ski mask came in the front door brandishing a knife and demanding money from the cash register. As an employee opened the cash register, the suspect grabbed the drawer and tried to flee but dropped the drawer. The suspect grabbed a quantity of cash from the drawer and fled out the front door.
Gloucester police officers, including a K-9 unit, attempted to track the suspect but were unsuccessful. An investigation ultimately led police to DOHERTY who was questioned on Tuesday morning and placed under arrest.
DOHERTY is being held at the Gloucester Police Department pending arraignment in Gloucester District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
