Gloucester Police Department Participates in National Community Policing Week
GLOUCESTER — Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Interim Chief John McCarthy are pleased to announce that the Gloucester Police Department is participating in National Community Policing Week.
Today marks the conclusion of National Community Policing Week, which is recognized between Oct. 2 and Oct. 8, 2016, as established by President Barack Obama in late September. National Community Policing Week calls upon law enforcement agencies, elected officials and all Americans to observe the week by recognizing ways to improve public safety, rebuild trust and strengthen community relationships.
“Our department takes immense pride in the relationships we have with our community stakeholders and residents,” Interim Chief McCarthy said. “We are honored to take this opportunity to showcase our commitment to community policing during National Community Policing Week and will continue to set an example of police work at its finest as we strengthen relationships throughout the city.”
Community policing is an active collaboration between community members and law enforcement that deepens trust and builds relationships among officers and community stakeholders, creating lasting solutions to daily challenges and advancing public safety.
As part of National Community Policing Week, Gloucester police officers will be taking time out of their cruisers to walk beats in their area and to visit schools and local businesses.
“The City of Gloucester is committed to providing the highest quality of public service to our residents,” Mayor Theken said. “Our police department has dedicated their service to community policing, not just today, but every day.”
