This is the Official Website of the Gloucester, Massachusetts Police Department. We are on-duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to serve the citizens of Gloucester and our visitors and business owners on land and water. Scroll through this page to learn more about GPD and our public safety mission.

By Land

The Gloucester Police Department deploys traditional patrol, bicycle, motorcycle, all-terrain units to patrol, secure, and serve the City of Gloucester and its mixed terrain including streets and beaches.

By Sea

Our Marine Unit is in the water to serve Gloucester Harbor and our rich fishing and boating culture. The Gloucester Police Department operates a 27-foot SafeBoat powered with twin 225hp engines, capable of speeds up to 43 knots. This allows us to effectively patrol the waterways and enforce the law on the water. It is also equipped with a fire pump capable of a 500 gallon per minute output.

Chief Edward G. Conley

Chief Conley is a 25-year veteran law enforcement leader. He spent 22 years with the Chelsea Police Department, rising to the level of lieutenant before he was named Chief of the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department in 2016. While in Manchester, he helped that agency make significant strides, including achieving full state accreditation for the first time. He became Gloucester's Police Chief in April 2019.
