Gloucester Police Arrest Man After Investigation info Illegal Firearm
Suspect, 21, Held on $10,000 Bail
GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello reports that a Gloucester man was arrested this week and charged after police conducted an investigation into an illegal firearm that was believed to be in his possession.
ZACHARY PERRINE, AGE 21, OF GLOUCESTER, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm. He was held on $10,000 bail at the Gloucester Police Department.
Over the past several days the Gloucester Police Department Criminal Investigation Division had been receiving information about and was developing an investigation into an illegal firearm that may be possessed by a local man. As the investigation unfolded, police learned that PERRINE was allegedly in possession of an unregistered firearm and was attempting to sell it.
Police set up a controlled buy, working with representatives of the Massachusetts State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, using marked/traceable money for the purchase.
After the sale, PERRINE was arrested, and the marked money and a quantity of illegal ammunition was found on his person. He may face additional charges for the ammunition.
“The diligence of the Gloucester Police Department today removed an illegal firearm from the streets and removed an alleged criminal from our community,” Chief Campanello said. “That is a gun, out of circulation, that could otherwise have been used to kill someone or commit any number of felonies in Gloucester or elsewhere. I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our officers and detectives, and I appreciate our partnerships with State Police and the ATF.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
